What happened
Sutter Health allegedly engaged in fraudulent, unlawful, and unfair billing practices by submitting and receiving payment on bills for anesthesia services that were not rendered, were double-billed, or were misleadingly described. This caused self-funded payers to pay more for anesthesia services than they should have. Sutter Health denies all allegations and maintains that its practices complied with applicable laws.
Do you qualify?
Self-funded payers (entities like employers, unions, or healthcare benefits trusts) that were California citizens or state and local governmental entities of California on January 6, 2015, and that compensated Sutter Health for anesthesia services administered in Sutter Health's operating rooms at acute care hospitals between January 1, 2003 and December 31, 2013.
How to file
Class members needed to complete, sign, and return a Claim Form by June 9, 2025 (deadline has passed). Claims were submitted either by mail to the Claims Administrator or online. Eligible claimants will receive a share of the settlement fund calculated pro rata based on the number of active participants in their plan from 2003 through 2013.
