What happened
From May 2011, plaintiffs sued Suffolk County on behalf of a class of detainees and inmates held in Suffolk County Correctional Facilities, alleging unconstitutional conditions. A settlement was reached in February 2025, with Suffolk County agreeing to pay $18 million to resolve the claims.
Do you qualify?
Anyone who was a detainee or inmate in custody of the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department and housed in Suffolk County Correctional Facilities (Riverhead or Yaphank facilities, excluding those housed only in the Yaphank facility that opened in 2013) and who was released on or after April 5, 2009 through May 27, 2025.
