What happened
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department conducted group strip searches at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California in a manner that a court found to be unconstitutional in 2017. The department has agreed to settle the class action lawsuit by paying eligible individuals who were subjected to these searches.
Do you qualify?
Anyone who was strip searched in a group, outside in the bus garage, while entering or returning to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department's Lynwood Jail (CRDF) between March 5, 2008 and January 31, 2015, as verified by LASD records.
How to file
The claim deadline was September 9, 2021 (now passed). Class members who submitted complete and approved claim forms before that date have already received payments. The settlement has distributed all payments as of January 8, 2025, and no further claims are being accepted.
