What happened

Los Angeles County, Renew Financial, and Renovate America allegedly engaged in financial elder abuse and unlawful practices through the PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) program. Homeowners claim they entered into unlawful assessment contracts that were recorded as liens against their property, resulting in damages. In 2022, the parties agreed to settle to avoid further litigation costs and risk.

Do you qualify?

Anyone who entered into a Renew Financial Assessment Contract or Renovate America Assessment Contract with Los Angeles County between March 1, 2015, and March 31, 2018, where that assessment contract was recorded as a lien against their real property. Heirs of deceased homeowners who meet this definition may also qualify.

Common questions

How much does the PACE L.A. Settlement pay?
Estimated payout: Four levels of benefits available; see FAQ 7 for details. The total settlement fund is $12M. Actual amounts depend on how many valid claims are filed — most settlements divide a fixed fund pro rata, so a higher claim rate means a smaller individual check. An "up to" figure is a cap, not a guarantee.

Is the PACE L.A. Settlement notice real, or a scam?
JND Legal Administration is the settlement administrator for this case. Claims are filed at pacelasettlement.com. Filing a class action claim is always free — no legitimate settlement charges you to claim, and no administrator will ask for payment, a gift card, or your full Social Security number by email or text. If a notice asks for any of those, it is not from the administrator. When in doubt, ignore the link you were sent and go to the official settlement website directly.
When will payments from the PACE L.A. Settlement be sent?
Class action payouts typically take 12 to 24 months after the claim deadline, and longer if the settlement is appealed. The final approval hearing for this case is set for September 24, 2024; no payments can be issued before a settlement receives final approval.
